Raoul Dupoux
Raoul Dupoux was born on June 10, 1906 in Jeremie, Haiti. He started
designing at the age of seven, while in school, with the guidance of his
mother, a watercolor artist. He then used oils with his uncle, Alain
Clerir, an artist and a great Haitian music composer. He
then studied at the Universal School of Paris.
A religious man, Dupoux joined the Congregation of Brothers of Christian
Instructions where he spent seven years. He continued his studies in art
with the famous religious artist Marcel George. Dupoux was obliged to
leave the institute when his father became ill.
When the Centre d'Art found out about his talent, they called him to have an
exhibit with Maurice Borno. Other exhibitions abroad received acclamation
for his watercolors and his pen and ink drawings. Immediately after,
Professor Montagutelli called upon Dupoux to offer him the position of
professor at the Academie des Beaux Arts.
